Why we lost the war against SARS-CoV-2.

In the film version of H.G. Wells' War of the worlds the aliens were destroyed by a microbial infection.

As a species, haven't, we humans, become like aliens?

If viruses could dream, we are the most perfect hosts that viruses could dream of.

We are far too many and far too crowded, and we travel far too much.

No other species gathers such ideal traits that are so perfect for the reproduction of viruses, which is the only thing that viruses do.

Bats are good hosts because they are crowded, but they travel much smaller distances. Some birds travel very long distances, but they don't crowd, are fewer, and travel much less than humans. The same goes for cetaceans.

If it's not SARS-CoV-2 that beats us, which I think it does, it would be another virus, prion, enzyme, bacteria or whatever, that would do it, because we are the most ideal hosts that have ever existed.

All our scientific feats can't compensate for the fragility of our nature:

  • We love to reproduce massively.
  • We love to crowd. The bigger the crowd, the more exhilarated we get.
  • We love to travel.

Are we going to moderate any of these passions? I don't think so. That's why we're doomed and SARS-CoV-2 won.
